Exploring the Ways Arts and Crafts Promote Learning in Daycare
Engaging in crafting activities allows children to explore their imagination and learn cognitive skills as well. Here are some fun and easy art ideas that we use with your little ones.
Creating Collages
We collect various materials, such as colored paper, magazines, fabric scraps, and stickers. Then we provide your child with glue and a large sheet of paper to create a collage. This activity enhances fine motor skills such as cutting, tearing, and arranging as well as math skills like geometric shapes and the difference in sizes.
Stringing Beads
We provide colorful beads and sturdy string or yarn. Then we encourage children to create necklaces or bracelets by threading the beads onto the string. This activity enhances fine motor coordination as they practice grasping, pinching, and threading. It also allows them to explore patterns and colors, boosting their creative thinking. And it can also teach them to count.
Making a Lava Lamp
For this craft, we mix water, oil, food coloring, and an effervescent tablet in a clear bottle. This creates the effect of a lava lamp. This craft teaches children about chemical reactions and density while being visually appealing.
Rainbow Chromatography
With this craft we cut coffee filters into circular shapes. Using washable markers, the children draw a thick line of various colors near the bottom of each filter. Next, we dip the bottom edge of the filter into water. The water travels up the filter carrying the ink with it and causing the colors to spread and separate. Once dry, children have a colorful creation that helped them understanding the science behind mixtures and separation.
